Doctoral Studies in Western Europe: An Institution Analysis with Special Emphasis on Germany and France

The year 2016 witnesses the eightieth anniversary of the establishment of Renmin University of China. The School of Education has held series of lectures to celebrate it, in hope of better development of the field of education.

On the afternoon of Sept. 24th, the first one of the series of lectures delivered by overseas professors has been held successfully. Speaker of the lecture is Professor JuergenSchriewer, the Overseas Experts awarded by State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs P.R. China. The theme of the lecture is 'Doctoral Studies in Western Europe: An Institution Analysis with Special Emphasis on Germany and France'. The lecture traces the dissolution, since Humanism and the Reformation, of the old Europe-wide graduation system and the reformulation of the Doctorate C or its functional equivalents C in different European countries.

The lecture was pretty interesting, which sheds a light on the doctoral institution in western Europe, and led participators think about this issue deeply.

Some titles of JuergenSchriewer are listed as follows, the Emeritus Professor in Humboldt University, the Member of the Editorial Board of the UK-based journal Comparative Education, the Chair of Standing Research Committee of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies, and the Comparative Education Center at Humboldt University.

This lecture has provided an opportunity for teachers and students of School of Education to communicate with famous overseas professors. It also aroused students interest in educational issues.
