SOE teachers and students participated in ANZELA and visited Oakland University

During September 27th to 30th, the twenty-fifth annual conference of Australia & New Zealand Education Law Association (ANZELA) was held in Oakland, New Zealand. Professor Qin Huimin, Professor Shen Suping, Assistant Professor Zhou Xiang, Assistant Professor Ye Yangyong and doctoral candidate Jia Nan were invited to attend the meeting. About 120 educational law researchers, lawyers, government officials and representatives of professional organizations from Australia, New Zealand and the United States participated in this conference.


The ANZELA annual conference which consists of 32 reports lasted for three days. Professor Qin Huimin and Assistant Professor Zhou Xiang delivered a speech entitled Private higher education in China: history, legislation and the future. Professor Shen Suping and Assistant Professor Ye Yangyong also delivered a speech entitled the protection of student rights in higher education institutions. Besides, Doctoral student Jia Nan gave a talk about Study on the legislative protection of rights of internship in China Vocational Education.





The reports of the delegates of SOE attracted the attention of representatives from the conference. The Host of the conference appreciated SOE delegation for attending the meeting and expressed their hope for further communication.

Professor Shen Suping introduced that School of Education will hold an International Conference on Educational law next year, expressed the anticipation to strengthen international exploration and exchange of educational law with researchers from Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Europe, Japan and so on. Many representatives from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and other countries responded that they would submit research papers and actively participate in the conference held in Beijing and they were looking forward to a more in-depth communication and cooperation with the Chinese counterparts.


Australia & New Zealand Education Law Association (ANZELA) was founded in 1991. It is a professional organization of Education Law Research in Australia & New Zealand. Its purpose is to offer a cooperation platform for academic researchers, legal professionals, staffs who work at the educational management sector. The ANZELA is composed of the personnel from administrative department of education research, lawyers, education consultants, crew of arbitration mediation and other professionals. It exerts a profound and lasting influence within Australia and New Zealand. ANZELA currently has branches in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and New Zealand. It was the second time for the delegation of SOE to participate in the annual conference of ANZELA.


After attending the annual conference, invited by Education and Social Work Department of New Zealand Oakland University, the delegation of SOE visited Oakland University and met with Professor Lawrence Zhang, vice president of College of Education of Oakland University,and Professor Saville Kunsher, the famous qualitative researcher. They discussed constructive cooperation on dual master degree projects, student exchanges, teacher cooperation and other issues. Furthermore, the delegation of SOE and Professor Saville Kunsher discussed and studied educational research methodology, especially the methodology application of case-study. After the talks, both sides achieved initial intent of cooperation.
