It cultivates senior specialized talents with solid and broad basic theories and systematic specialized knowledge. These talents will possess abilities of independent scientific research and teaching. Additionally, they will have profound insights and research abilities on strategic issues about the development of education or the legal system or economy or sociology

5. The training method, the fundamental segments and the requirements of learning   process

(1) Training method

(2) The fundamental segments and the requirements of learning process

The time of having courses is one year. After reaching the standard of the qualified grade,   candidates applying for further study on doctor degree will attend the qualification examination (a comprehensive examination of disciplines) in the second year. If they pass this examination, they will write their dissertation proposal.

(3) Strengthen the construction of learning style; practice strict self-discipline; obey the academic morality and standards

Obeying the academic morality and standards along with strict self-discipline should be performed in every segment of doctorial students study:

Be steadfast and careful during study, learn hard, and obey the rules of class; be honest and serious in the exam and practice the discipline of the exam; be rigorous and careful during academic researches; do not admire fake fame; reach the academic standards; do not plagiarize and steal others academic achievements during the composition of dissertation and its publication; comply with the academic morality and practice strict self-discipline.


6. Structure of knowledge and basic requirements for learning courses

(1) Basic requirements for knowledge structure

Be proficient in the application of foreign languages. Master the opinions, standing points and methods of Marxism and apply them to analyze academic issues and make researches. Systematically master the basic theories and methods of pedagogy, management science, economics or law and sociology and apply them to study educational phenomena and solve problems in reality.

The arrangement of courses: Divide courses into four categories: public course, professional course, optional course and prerequisite course. The prerequisite classes are designed for the doctoral students with the same learning ability that are enrolled in this major and those who did not learn this major before. They are required to select at least two correspondent courses set for graduate students and the grades of these courses will not be included in the grade used for applying for doctoral degree.

(2) Curriculum and grade (see the table affiliated behind)

The total grade is at least 22 points. The grade of public courses is at least 5 points. The grade of methodological courses is at least 6 points. The grade of professional courses is at least 9 points. The grade of optional courses is at least 2 points. The number of prerequisite courses is at least two.


7. The qualification exam

The comprehensive examination of disciplines is set for the doctoral students who have reached the standard of the course grade and prepare for the selection of dissertations topics and contents. It consists of two parts: a written exam and an oral test.


8. Academic forums and social activities

Doctoral students should participate in the subject research under the guidance of their professors and take part in finishing the report of the subject research with the help of their professors.


9. The proposal of dissertation

This dissertation proposal of doctoral students aims at illustrating, examining, and specifying the topic and contents of doctoral students dissertations. It is a specialized meeting meant for supervising and guaranteeing the quality of the doctoral students dissertations.


10. Scientific research and publication of academic papers

During the study, doctoral students must officially publish at least two academic papers (excluded employment letters) on core journals. The other requirements can refer to the conditions listed in the Handbooks of Graduate Students.


11. The tasks and requirements of dissertations

(1)  Writing

The composition of the dissertation is the core segment of doctoral education. It can directly reflect the quality and level of doctoral education. The doctoral students must finish their dissertations that meet the related requirements within a specified time. The dissertation is an academic paper which should be independently finished by the doctoral students themselves according to the writing plan under the guidance of the professors. The dissertation should meet the requirements of the training objective to guarantee the quality.

(2) Dissertation defense and conferring degrees

The doctoral students should finish every project of the professional training plan. And their assignments should be examined. If their assignments pass the qualified standard, they are required to write their dissertations and abstracts. With the recommendation of their professors and the approval of the graduate school, they are qualified to participate in the review and defense stage of dissertation. The requirements of dissertation defense should be accorded with the related conditions listed in the Training Scheme of Doctoral Degree Graduates in Renmin University of China.

2. Methodological course (6 points)

Advanced Econometrics for Public Policy Analysis 3 points EEP804 1 semester

(Emphasize teaching the analytic method of cause-effect in the analysis and evaluation of policies. Specifically apply it to the analysis and evaluation of educational policies.)


Econometric Analysis 3 points PUE802 1 semester

(This course is a methodological one set for the graduate students majoring in economic management etc.. With the background of econometric theories, this course introduces the models and methods of common econometrics to improve the students abilities of quantitatively analyzing issues.)


Methods of Science and Logic 3 points PUE803 1 semester

(This course introduces the basic theories and major achievements of modern logic. Advocate the analytic rationality and the science spirit in the group of individuals working in the field of humanistic science and social science. Philosophically analyze and summarize several challenging achievements in modern logic. Provide new theoretical perspectives and scientific nutrition to different majors of humanistic and social sciences. Practice trainings of logical thinking abilities. )


Survey Resign and Management 3 points PUS704 1 semester

(This course introduces the common methods of sampling such as simple random sampling, stratified sampling, systematic sampling, multi-phases sampling, double sampling and inverse sampling. Through the introduction of the methods above, discussion of thoughts on sample investigation, the features of different sampling methods and dealing with practical issues in application, students are equipped with the abilities of designing sampling plans after finishing this course. Prerequisite course: Statistics


3. Professional course (at least 9 points)


The Classical Works on Educational Economy and Administration 3 points EEP801 1 semester

(Based on the core referent works of this major, emphasize teaching the basic theories of educational economics and management and studying the related classic works.)





Seminar on Comparative Education Law and Policy 3 points EEP802 2 semesters

(Based on the core referent works of this major, this course studies the basic theories, fundamental disciplines and realistic issues of studying educational laws and policies home and abroad.)


Higher Education Study from Multi-disciplinary Perspective 3 points EEP803 2 semesters

(Based on the core referent works of this major, from the perspectives of law, economics, sociology and history, this course analyzes cases to study the theories, methods and trends of higher education studies.)



Educational Policy Analysis 3 points EEP806 2 semesters

(This course aims at introducing to the doctoral students majoring in higher education the basic concepts, major referent works and fundamental issues related to the policy analysis and educational politics of higher education. Through learning this course, students will develop the skills of analyzing basic issues related to educational policies and educational politics and possessing the abilities of defining, describing, analyzing and criticizing related issues. Who has the power of making educational policies? Where does this power come from? How can people understand the formation process of educational policies? What kind of problems will come up during the execution of educational policies? How can people comment on educational policies? How are the political activities in educational organizations developed? What kind of legal issues are involved during governing and administrating universities? What legal relationships are among universities, teachers, faculty of administration and students? What legal issues are involved in academic activities in universities?)


4. Optional course (at least 2 points)


Frontiers of the Philosophy of Education 3 points EEP805 2 semesters

(Doctoral students are guided to learn the frontiers of the philosophy of education and possess personal understanding of the philosophy of education and exercise and improve their own thinking abilities of educational theories. Before this course, students are required to learn the related basic courses of the philosophy of education or the basic theories of education. It will be better if the course studies on basic theoretical issues of education is finished learning.)


Development History of Chinese and Foreign Education Thoughts 3 points EEP807 1 semester

(This course consists of the most important educational thoughts, development and changes in human history. It helps the researchers to master the basic pursuit and major exploration of human education which involve the philosophy of education, educational politics, the educational management, the educational law, and educational economics. It can be divided into two parts: China and foreign countries; it can also be separated according to the ancient and modern times. Because of the richness of its content, this course is given in two semesters.)



Theory and Practice of Education Reform 3 points EEP808 1 semester

(This course adopts the form of seminars. Based on the reality of the educational reform and the development in China and the world, from the perspective and the height of related educational science theories, this course combines certain cases of educational reforms and applies the theories to reality and carries the insightful research and analysis. It aims at helping doctoral students majoring in education develop the good learning habit of seeking facts from reality and applying theories to reality. It cultivates the students to apply the scientific theories of education they have learned to analyze the realistic issues of education and improve the abilities of understanding and solving problems in the practice of education.)



Legal Issues in Education and Educational Policy 2 points EPA603 2 semesters

(Based on the perspective of the development of Chinese legal administration and social harmony: What is the core issue of the legal system and policies of education? What is the standard of reviewing the successes or failures of the educational law and policies?)
