主讲人简介：

查强，毕业于英国伦敦大学、加拿大多伦多大学，现任加拿大约克大学副教授，国际与比较教育学会高教分会主席，中国“千人计划”学者，清华大学伟伦高级访问学者，北京大学、复旦大学、南京师范大学兼职教授。从事国际与比较教育研究，并获得国内外多项荣誉表彰。

讲座简介：     

Situated in the context of challenges facing liberal arts education in Chinese universities, this lecture explores (1) Why do we (still) need a liberal arts education in the 21st century? (2) Should an effective or ideal liberal arts education evolve with time and context? If yes, what needs to be taken into account in the 21st century? (3) What does a 21st-century liberal arts education look like at Chinese universities and elsewhere? Employing the German concept of Bildung as a guiding framework, it concludes that a 21st-century liberal arts education for universities in China and elsewhere needs to absorb meta changes and movements in society at home and around the world, while ideally rooted in a knowledge tradition. Hence it would comprise three essential elements: humanist education, cognitive education, and global education.
